This image has remained with me for 50+years, and because this image symbolizes sacrifice, I kneel in gratitude because I know my story could have been told by someone else. I owe my restorative power to my willful intent to survive, and by surviving, I learned how to stay in the game. From my ‘dog tags’ to my boots and rifle to that protective helmet, I have remained steadfast in my belief in myself and this country. To lead this parade is another testament to my refusal to follow corruption and deceit, and because of that, I must believe that America is great for all the right reasons. I must continue to be who I am by being that person who can lead when necessary. From quiet advice to utter silence, my leadership can appear in so many ways because carrying a non-image of a disgusting behavioral image to model is another form of leadership. When someone can look at me and say, “that’s who I want to be, or who I admire, the image projected is your message that suggests that you have arrived. Boots on the ground!
