Anger is a convenient emotion that leads to others, but not without an explanation.

Emotions are complex psychological and physiological states of mind that arise in response to stimuli, experiences, or thoughts. Emotions are subjective experiences that influence our thoughts, behaviors, and decision-making. Please note that emotions are not feelings, but they are closely related. Instead, emotions are the initial response to a situation, while feelings refer to how we interpret those responses. Moreover, emotions often include three main components:

SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE:

  1. This identifier determines how you respond to a situation, such as happiness, sadness, and anger.

PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE:

  1. This relates to bodily changes such as increased heart rate, sweating, or blushing accompanying emotions.

BEHAVIORAL EXPRESSION:

  1. It relates to how our emotions serve essential purposes, such as helping people react to challenges, connect with others, and navigate social interaction. They are often categorized as:

a. Basic Emotions: This relates to universal emotions like joy, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, and disgust.

b. Complex Emotions: These are emotions influenced by cultural or social contexts, such as guilt, pride, or shame.

In short, these examples play a crucial role in human survival and well-being by guiding decisions, motivating actions, and strengthening relationships. Learning about who you are is essential to healing.

I’ve been able to gain a lot of control over the past 5 years. I used to be a mess and I guess I would attribute the advances to experiencing more life. Me and my friend were recently talking about how we feel we can’t stop feeling certain emotions because we’re stuck in our hometowns. It’s like we are stuck in a loop. I try to daydream and put myself in new situations, see how I would act then. Journaling and tracking my emotions on a daily basis has helped. Lately I’ve been tapping in to my 10 year old self who always thought I would end up doing something creative as my career. Like animation, or being a painter. I feel like I’ve lost that part of expressing my emotions and want to get it back. I used to make entire fake houses, and costumes out of scraps, and movies with my stuffed animals. It makes me wonder how my emotional regulation would be if I’d continued.
