GET TO KNOW YOUR PARENTS AS EACH OF YOU IS NOW AN ADULT!
As I now move into the title of this post of having conversations with your parents, let me begin by saying that it’s been my blessing to have my parents still with me. This picture was at a seminar that I hosted in Matteson, Illinois, in 2013, which derived from a self-help book that I wrote to enable people to think with intent. To have them both there to hear me, and to have them see who they gave birth too, was so gratifying not only for me but for them as well. I see the parents of that generation who wanted to see their children prosper and get as much as they could out of their lives to display a positive example. These previous generations enjoyed their children’s success to be higher and better than their own because that is the instrument of ‘generational awareness’ and the rise from mediocrity from one generation to the next. It’s not so much the interaction of parenthood with their offspring as it is the lessons, the journey, and the model of trying to be that ultimate role model. I’ve always tried to be that ‘model of class’ despite the many bad decisions I made, but I NEVER compromised my integrity through it all. The development of a sound, rational mind is the impetus to a well-regarded legacy that brings pride that started with my PARENTS.
So, forget about what was and focus on what could be if everyone tried a bit harder. No one is perfect, which means we have all made mistakes, but if you can recall the errors, you have the money to amend, alter, and remove any misgivings. Could you do it now before it’s too late? These lovely people have left their legacy with me by the stroke of this keyboard. I will always remember what they left me. Regretfully, I lost my dad in September of 2019, but what he left me doesn’t come with a price tag. Thank you, dad!
