What do you see when you meet a person for the first time? The obvious answer might be race, but with the expanded answer, the more realistic solution could be facial characteristics related to attractiveness or not? Perhaps your first look could be one of the assessments where you see fear or anxiety. Maybe you see honesty or distrust? Maybe you see love or hate, but whatever you know, the question remains, are you judging the person in question unjustly, or is your judgment optimistic?
I think the honest answer, at least for me, is to see character over skin color, and from there, as opinions are formed, they condemn or glorify. Moreover, many people judge by racial origin, especially those who have already bought into racial indifference and are raised in a racially biased environment, which amounts to a learned behavior found within a choice domain. But let’s not make this post about white vs. black; instead, let’s be authentic by admitting that many of us, white or black, are unjustly judgmental. Many of us tend to look for reasons we shouldn’t like someone instead of looking for ideas to accept that someone without prejudice because prejudice, hatred, or jealousy has no particular racial acquaintance but subscribes to you not having over someone else who does.
Rejection before acceptance is a too shallow way of determining credible character. Surrendering before someone has ample opportunity to prove themselves is an immediate affront to moral or ethical servitude. The beauty within the beholder’s eyes is a devout misnomer unless the giver and the recipient of the compliment fall into a category of likeness. When you can honestly admit that you like someone, that means that you should care as well. If caring is the bridge to a lasting engagement, there is nothing else to assess because integrity and protecting that integrity is the most genuine emotion anyone can possess.
My ideals about people is a likable spirit. If the pretense of a personality is the first thing I see, my elected choice is to keep moving. However, a person has to prove to me they are worthy because of who I know I am, and others ultimately see honesty about me.
