Parent Child Relationships

Posted on 2 minute read

The interactions of child-parent relationships aren’t always the best, mostly due to separations, followed by divorce.  This idea of one-parent homes introduces the child to a critical imbalance, as this change can negatively impact a child’s behavior. When a child’s belief system is violated, behavioral chaos takes over. Parents are suddenly at odds, and the child is left to conclude. With no means of interpreting what’s going on, the child is left to grow alone and form his own opinions about life and the sanctity of marriage. If the child is old enough to understand that one parent is no longer a part of the family unit, that child will again look for answers elsewhere and sometimes in the wrong places.

Parent-child relationships are a means to fortify those core values of morality, discipline, and commitment. This relationship is the beginning of solidarity and how reality is placed within the family structure to build trust and loyalty. These are the basic tenets of a learning behavior taken into account and reasoned by the child. If these characteristics are skewed in any way, the reverse effect of parental guidance and image is marred.

As every circumstance involving the family unit’s dismantling is different, followed by various outcomes, the ultimate effect will fall upon the child favorably or not. As I subscribe to the child’s welfare,  I can honestly say that children are generally products of their environments. Through these unfavorable environments, children adopt their parents’ attitudes and behaviors. For parents not to see the damage they cause will, in time, be a frequent reoccurrence of a mismanaged home atmosphere. To that end, the problems blossom, and lives can be lost. However, there are great benefits of effective parenting to child development under normal circumstances and even more significant gains in the face of risk. The greater good must be in the best interest of the child. Remember, children tend to emulate what they see, especially with their parents. Remember, you were once a child!
