Recognizing Depression

Posted on 1 minute read

Let me be clear, depression is a mood disorder that impacts both emotional and physical well-being. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. While occasional sadness is part of life, depression is marked by persistent and overwhelming feelings that don’t easily improve without treatment. Your common emotional signs include persistent sadness and feelings of emptiness. A lingering low mood that doesn’t seem to lift. Loss of interest in activities that once brought joy no longer feels satisfying. And finally, hopelessness or helplessness, a sense that nothing will ever improve. It’s better to know that depression does not look exactly like it did a generation ago.  Many people with depression wake up, go to work, meet deadlines, and appear fine. Internally, they may feel numb, disconnected, or exhausted by simply existing. Productivity becomes a coping mechanism rather than a sign of wellness.

Seek help, or leave quickly.

With today’s political climate, depression is easily attained. As the government provides its citizens with nothing to look forward to that will improve their lives, people fall into deep depression, clinging to the hope that things will get better. As that example sounds encouraging, an even greater sense of anxiety plays an integral part in human development.
