In this photo, my dad is 90 years young. His name is Sylsarza Alston, and he’s doing well. That blessing had allowed me to connect differently from when I was younger. So, on this date, June 18, 2017, I thank him and embrace him now and always.
Since this original post, my dad passed away on September 28, 2019. After an extended decline, he passed away at home with his family. I often wondered about his life when I was younger because I wasn’t always around, but witnessing how he died showed me how he lived and who he was- strong, willful, patient, and brave. My tribute continues to this day!

As this article is updated on November 5, 2025, I am now 77 years old. I often reflect on my life and compare it to my dear parents’. What I have found, I am sure they are pleased because I gave my life the best of knowledge.
