A despicable reality, black men have always suffered the color barrier that shortens life, criminalizes the sanctity of merely looking different, and then being severely punished to death. An all too familiar face, black men across the country suffer this same fate, not knowing what to do to avoid what seems to be inevitable. Police are getting away with executions that are escalated by their words and their actions. Inciting every opportunity to wreak havoc upon helpless black men, white police officers carry no fear of punishment and do what they set out to do day in and day out. After being taught how to behave and respond, black men still fall short and enter that tight space of white rage. Black men fall short of that positive outcome to escape a nightmare because nothing will work to render them safe. This systematic approach to eliminating black men and women brings about a demographic of assassins. These officers strap on their weapons every day in hopes of finding some unsuspecting black victim for target practice or to take their lives. Why? We can only fashion an answer to this perplexing question by labeling white behavior as racist and unfeeling. True antagonist, too many white officers cross the line every day, caring less about taking the life of any black man who happens to be convenient. So, where does such arrogance and defiance begin? It begins at the top. Your politicians who change the laws and write the rules to excuse these shootings hand down the permission and set the criteria and the motivation.

This picture represents every black man in America. A painting once seen as a vibrant and productive human being can find himself the target in front of a firing squad, willing to end lives and decimate families. With all of his God-given talent, the black man has not become a menace to society but has become an ongoing threat to a race striving to stay on top and afloat. It saddens me that this exchange of hatred and bias permeates society, lurking to do whatever is necessary to hold black men back while subjugating their existence and position in life. As blacks strive to be all they can be, the task of making that happen is exhausting.
As I remain confident in the ideology of divine intervention and man’s strong will, the time has come to fight with our intellect and perseverance to survive while upholding the pride, discipline, and commitment that people of color share. As a black man, I have carried that committed pursuit to live up to my inheritance from centuries back. Recall that affords me a life filled with challenges, but I survived to energize myself and others through my willful intent. My carefully planned life came with setbacks and hurdles I never saw coming, but it has been a blessing to move forward and stay in the game. If you never play, you never score points. If your time is spent on the bench, your talents falter and erode. So, remain flexible, and stay smart enough to know that what you think you do is never enough. Limiting your travel is not the answer because the country you live in can become an open prison. Being a man and controlling your emotions can be a start to a situation that can quickly escalate. Walk in the knowledge of saying less and answering the questions as they are given. Understand, it’s not the color of your skin, but it is the fear of losing your place in society. Our dominance, our resistance, and our survival skills all play a part in racial strife.

Today would have been my Mother’s 100th birthday and she always was a fighter for equal rights for black people especially black men. She was from Alabama and had seen so much hatred in her life. We as the black race have to stick together and fight as one.
