Are We Still Slaves

ANY TRUTH TO THE TITLE?

Some may say yes, and others say no, but I say, indeed, we are slaves, which is why we remain invisible. Absent the chains and shackles, our free speech to voice our opinions and live and thrive like others who look different continues to be the threat we don’t see or choose to ignore. Our thoughts of absolute freedom are shaded by material things that carry no lasting value, such as land. Land to accommodate black businesses, schools, and banks. We still have no independence to make decisions within our communities because whites manage these communities’ infrastructure. Our white counterparts control every single means of viable security and wealth. For the working man of color who earns a salary, owns a home, and drives a nice car, he is still a slave who’s been handed an opportunity forfeits that opportunity based on the decision by someone white. Living without a country to call our own, we are seen as unwelcome encroachers in a society that punishes its working class. What has happened to our freedom to equality promised to us centuries ago? That question will be forever etched in our minds as a lie that has manifested over time, where no truth will prevail to change the black condition.

The irony of slavery has been held captive within the mind of the slave. We exist based on whites’ core beliefs taught to us. We did it, and we contrived and manipulated how we chose to do it. The molding of an unfinished sculpture is brought to life by its creator to get to that piece of art what he elects it to be. Like it or not, change is imminent, and those changes are not in the best interest of the needy. Those who have versus those who don’t will be the survivors of the past where their money and privilege will buy their entertainment, maintain their living conditions, and fill their jails for profit. Despite the wealth accrued, the athlete who can make millions is still silenced and cannot invest that money to benefit the black movement and its empowerment.

I choose my freedom to act and think accordingly. However, if my future and that of my family is threatened, I elect to fight and be given my choice to live as I should. To thy self be accurate, but only if I believe. The truth can cost you your life, and that’s why so many are afraid to speak it!
