Holy Matrimony is a welcome event for many, but it can be challenging for some. To understand that statement, individuals must first realize who they are and what they expect from each other before getting married. Both parties must determine what each person wants from marriage and take the necessary steps to ask those difficult questions to arrive at a place of understanding and acceptance. Each person must ask themselves if they genuinely love each other and if the marriage is salvageable. Are you willing to work to ensure behavioral authenticity, knowing that your habits and beliefs will come into play, and as a consequence, this can determine what’s worth your effort? Can you bring your mistakes under scrutiny and attempt to correct your previous transgressions? If these matters can be accomplished, the next step to a successful union will be closer than before. The time for regrets should not occur after marriage when following your gut and the other signs you were aware of from the beginning.
You see that marriage is more than a ceremony, getting a ring, and having a party full of laughter, gifts, and dancing. Instead, marriage is the supreme sacrifice, followed by a commitment to alter your lifestyle for the betterment of a life spent together. When two people decide to get married, they no longer act and behave as one person and must now work as a team, fighting for the same things. Many of my clients demonstrate problems in their marriages with the sole intent of blaming their partners for the marital issues, as each person must be held accountable for their actions by first admitting that inconsistencies about themselves require serious assessment and the ‘will’ to change.
Everyone’s rightful place in this world is to know and understand their partner’s temperament, personality, habits, and beliefs. Through this dual assessment, a conscious decision can be made to determine compatibility. If your temperament aligns with anger issues, a lack of patience, or avoiding responsibility, these characteristics speak loudly about a failed relationship because you have already failed yourself. Temperament, from a psychological perspective, refers to the aspect of a particular personality type that highlights emotional dispositions and reactions. If your human psyche lends itself to mood changes and the following patterns, trouble lurks with your partner.

Personalities are assigned to inherent and acquired behavioral characteristics that distinguish one person from another. Knowing your personality type and your partner’s can help you understand who you’re getting to know. If your habits and beliefs have led you to become accustomed to your current way of operating, and change is out of the question, deliberate further to determine if marriage is the right fit.
In short, marriage is a significant step, and it will not change who you are, despite the excitement, lovemaking, and finally finding that soulmate you’ve always longed for in the present moment. If any of this information is an oversight caused by neglect or thinking that you’re perfect, seek counseling to entertain the possibility of discovery.
