Old Too Soon and Wise Too Late

Posted on 2 minute read

As I’ve grown older, I have learned to realize and appreciate the importance of being present in your life. Being out of touch with yourself leaves a considerable void in character and integrity. Because life should be a personal journey to document, leaving that documentation to chance could be your worst nightmare. We’re not answering the call to excellence by leaving our lives to circumstance. We’re allowing life to take over by creating its path to its destination. To perpetuate purposeful existence is a direct link to success and satisfaction. If your life has carried no purpose, you haven’t done anything.

Seniors and Aging

Growing older and still living in the past indicates being absent in your life. Living as though you’re still sixteen means your thoughts and conversation have not changed because you have done nothing that warrants merit. When this is seen, living in your past means you have nothing new to contribute to a world and its people that has changed over the years. As a result, the feeling is emptiness, and catching up becomes an effort. When this happens, failure is entertained, and depression takes over because you’re falling back on what made you famous and perhaps different from the rest, as that was your comfort level. After all, there was a sense of belonging during that period of your life because everyone was the same. Nonetheless, with age should come certain seasonings that spice up the life that you’re moving through each day.

As I see myself growing older with those around me, I often remind myself how productive I’ve been over the years. This dedication to producing and giving my all to everything I did met my expectations, so feeling sorry for myself was not an issue. However, what can become an issue is the time I have left to pursue other meaningful projects where I can administer help to someone else. If your position to help empowers you, take that step to uplift another person. You’re never too old to be wiser!

You have held a position of authority for many years. People looked up to you. But now you are retired. What do you do? Nothing. Why do you feel your gifts and creativity are all used up? Don’t short change the world. Don’t just sit around waiting for the grim reaper. It is so sad. But for so many, so true.
