These women are just a few examples of what black excellence means. To step up and out of centuries of being enslaved, black men and women continue to prove their worth. Strong, resilient, and dedicated are a few of the core values needed to succeed, and these women share those characteristics. The pride I feel to see these women from similar backgrounds managed to rise to the highest levels in their prospective sports. No one with any sense of history and the limits placed on people of color can understand their rise was not easy. However, the pride they must feel to have overcome the odds and met those odds with style and grace, but NEVER apologizing for their talents. What greater victory is there to work hard all of your life, to see, feel, and appreciate those accomplishments. However, many tend to scoff at these achievements, but special people who wear a warrior’s armor find ways to persevere. So, what are your challenges? Are you afraid to face those challenges? Could facing those challenges change your life? If so, teach yourself to live by fighting for what you want in this short life we all face.
As a black woman, I’ve always been inspired and motivated seeing other women of color in excellence, they have always found a way to beat the odds. As a little girl this sparked something within me to see, and let me know I have no limitations or boundaries on what or who I could become in life. Honestly, consistently seeing them has kept me on my toes, every time I see them in action, their drive, ambition, courage, knowledge, wisdom and bravery, it’s just simply amazing! I feel like I’ve accomplished many things midpoint in my life, but still have further to go and more things to accomplish, and with them in my spot light. I’ll continue on my journey of resilience, hopefully to be a inspiration the younger generation of girls, whom I once was, whom I looked up too, which was another beautiful black resilient woman!
It’s important that you surround yourself with people who think and act as you do. The one true ingredient to living is to learn by the example of others and try to emulate their style of living. To do this requires your commitment to excellence and stage that same drive, that same vision, and that same refusal to never give up. You are on that road of deed and expression. Keep it up!
